A brief history of WACQ ...

580 AM, Tuskegee, signed on as WABT on September 3, 1952 with an all-purpose format.  In more recent years, the station was known as WBIL and branded as "Rejoice 580," broadcasting a gospel music format.

WACQ  was formerly located at 1130 AM on the dial and broadcast from studios on Macedonia Road in the Carrville community.   The reason why WACQ was only full power during the daytime was to protect KWKH in Shreveport, Louisiana and WBBR in New York City from skywave interference.  Known as "The Lake Area's Music Force," WACQ played a wide variety of records and covered local news, sports, weather, and more.

In August 2006, Hughey Communications applied to the FCC to increase the class D daytime-only power from 1,000 to 25,000 watts. The FCC granted a construction permit for this change on August 21, 2007.  Also in 2006, WACQ began broadcasting on 101.1 FM (W266BJ).

As of February 2019, WACQ is also broadcasting at 98.5 FM (W253CZ).  Therefore, listeners at the Lake, in Tallassee or Reeltown, in Eclectic or Dadeville, have some way of hearing the greatest hits of all time.  And of course, www.wacqradio.com provides crystal-clear audio of our signal.

FUN FACT: The first record played on WACQ-AM in 1979 was "Let Your Love Flow," by the Bellamy Brothers.
